How does a Desuperheater work and what actually is a Desuperheater?

As part of your Geothermal Heat Pump System, a Desuperheater is a secondary Heat Exchanger and only operates while your Heat Pump System is working. The Desuperheater transfers the heat from the ground and transfers it to your hot water tank during cold weathers and also works on the reverse order, collecting the heat from your place and taking it to your hot water tank during the summer and hot weather. The Desuperheater operates under the concept of recycling the extra heat by your Geothermal Unit and to transfer this heat to your residential home water tank. While your Geothermal System is not running, there is the need of a backup system to complement the heating cycle for your hot water tank and Desuperheater will be there to supplement that need in your water heater system.

Do I need a Desuperheater operating together with my Geothermal Application?

If you are using or plan to order a brand new Geothermal Heat Pump System, it might be a good idea to take in consideration all your available options offered by the manufacturer to optimize results. The Desuperheater is a good option that will work well along with your Geothermal Heat Pump System.
